CyberEDU was developed and launched back in 2020 with the primary objective of serving as a comprehensive tool for learning practical cybersecurity, catering to individuals of all skill levels, from beginners to professionals.
Since its inception, CyberEDU has experienced significant growth, becoming a hub for various educational events, activities, and competitions, particularly geared towards nurturing young talents – high school and university students alike. Notably, it has successfully hosted seven editions of Unbreakable Romania, including the ongoing 2024 edition, as well as five editions of the Romanian Cybersecurity Challenge, also featuring the future 2024 edition.
We are delighted to share our commitment to continuing investments in the education of younger generations in cybersecurity. As a testament to this dedication, CyberEDU has been chosen as the platform to officially host the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad in 2024, commonly known in Romanian as “Olimpiada de Securitate Cibernetica” or “OSC”.
The Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad is a national competition organised by the Romanian Ministry of Education, with the support of the Romanian Intelligence Service – SRI, The National Association for Information Systems Security (ANSSI), The Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate – DNSC, and powered by CyberEDU, Orange Romania and Bit Sentinel, that makes its debut in 2024. This marks a clear acknowledgement of the growing significance of cybersecurity education in Romania, given the rapid technological advancements and the concurrent shortage of specialists in this field.
Registration at the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad is open to all high school students in Romania.
The Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad will have two phases:
The Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad offers the opportunity for those who place higher in the rankings of the national phase to be part of the extended national team of Romania that will prepare for the European Cybersecurity Championship – ECSC24, which will take place this year in October in Turin (Italy).
The specific topics for the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad include fundamental cyber security concepts, but also applied elements of cryptography, web, mobile or desktop app security, Open Source Intelligence techniques, analysis of electronic logs, network traffic, reverse engineering, configuration and security of operating systems and networks, programming and scripting.
More details about the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad are available at www.osc.rocsc.ro, in the “FAQ” section.
The CyberEDU team faces a challenging but exciting mission as they gear up for the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad. Their dedicated efforts will be spread across various areas, given the multitude of responsibilities CyberEDU has for the success of the Olympiad:
a) those who have prior experience will have access to a specific set of challenges to train:
High school students will also have the possibility to organize their own Jeopardy Capture the Flag competition using challenges from previous editions of the Romanian Cybersecurity Challenge (ROCSC) – as seen in the photo above. The video below explains the steps to organizing a competition on CyberEDU:
b) those who do not have prior experience will have access to a specific set of education modules that teach them the fundamentals of cybersecurity and the basics of CTFs:
The Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad serves as a stepping stone for high school students, paving the way for their future careers in information security. It also stands as a significant benchmark for CyberEDU, underscoring its commitment to empowering young talents and enhancing their cybersecurity skills.
For CyberEDU, hosting the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad is a natural progression in fostering cybersecurity expertise and talent development. It reflects our dedication to supporting individuals as they grow and excel in this crucial field.
Without further ado, we wish all participants the best of luck at the Romanian Cybersecurity Olympiad!
