In April 2020, we launched CyberEDU as a special environment that leverages cyber-range-as-a-service technology. We wanted to close the gap between theory and practice, differentiating the experience from the standard cybersecurity learning journey.

For November 23-24 this year, we are getting ready to be a 4th time partner at DefCamp’s hacking competitions in the Hacking Village!

“Whoa, hold on…

… what is DefCamp?

What is the Hacking Village?

And how did all of this happen?”

CyberEDU & DefCamp’s Hacking Village – a history

Merely a few months following the official debut, we initiated a strategic partnership with DefCamp, the largest cybersecurity conference in CEE, to hold the most shattering and rebellious cybersecurity CTF competition in the region – DefCamp Capture the Flag (D-CTF).

It was only the 4th cybersecurity event we hosted on CyberEDU. Over 2,000 users engaged in the competition at the same time on the platform, and everything went on smoothly. That was the first difficult test for CyberEDU – and we passed.

In 2021, DefCamp transitioned to a fully online version of the conference. As a result, CyberEDU took on the role of hosting all of the event’s cybersecurity and hacking activities and competitions. The playground for such activities, also known as the Hacking Village, found a new home on CyberEDU. We hosted all 10 hacking events during two full conference days, plus that year’s edition of D-CTF, which attracted over 3,000 players.

One year later, CyberEDU would return as the official Hacking Village partner for DefCamp. As the infosec community reconnected in an onsite format, the D-CTF organizers found the perfect time to spice things up with a new format. The competition went from a Jeopardy-style online qualification phase to a first-time Attack & Defense-style onsite final, with all challenges hosted on CyberEDU.

With a track record like that, we couldn’t miss DefCamp’s Hacking Village in 2023.

Towards DefCamp’s 2023 Hacking Village

This year’s DefCamp Hacking Village is going to be a blast!

First and foremost, the DefCamp Capture the Flag (D-CTF) Qualification Phase took place on October 20-22, on CyberEDU!

A lot of things happened, but here are the most important statistics and data we got from this intense weekend:

  • The quals were a Jeopardy format CTF;
  • There were 10 challenges for beginners and 15 (insanely difficult) challenges for the more experienced;
  • 610 teams registered,
  • over 80 countries were present.
  • They competed for 48 hours,
  • Everyone tried to make it in the top 10 shortlist (minimum 10) and reach the final phase,
  • That will be, for the first time, a mix of Attack & Defence and Jeopardy!
  • And that will take place during the DefCamp 2023 conference on November 23-24 in Bucharest!
  • You can check the leaderboard for the D-CTF 2023 Quals, here.

Here at CyberEDU, we’ve got the technical prowess and a zest for taking things to the next level – and by “next level,” we mean real serious business!

Besides D-CTF, the DefCamp team is cooking up a fresh batch of competitions for the Hacking Village. CyberEDU will be a proud host for any of the events.

Of course, if you have an exceptional cybersecurity competition concept that you believe would be a perfect fit for DefCamp’s Hacking Village, we will provide you with a dedicated space to organize and manage the event directly on the CybeEDU platform. You just need to submit your idea here, and we’ll be there to support you!

See you at DefCamp 2023!
